NAD+ has become one of the most talked-about molecules in the longevity and cellular-health space, and NMN is almost always mentioned in the same breath. They're closely related, but they're not the same thing — and understanding the difference explains why NMN, not NAD+ itself, is what shows up in supplement form.
What NAD+ actually is
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a molecule found in every cell in your body, and it's essential to two core processes: producing cellular energy and supporting the systems your cells use to repair themselves. NAD+ levels decline significantly as you get older, which is a big part of why it's become such a focus in research on cellular aging.
Why you can't just take NAD+ directly
Here's the catch: NAD+ itself doesn't absorb well when taken orally as a supplement — its molecular structure makes it difficult for the body to use efficiently that way. This is why NAD+ boosters in supplement form are almost always precursor molecules instead: compounds your body can absorb and then convert into NAD+ internally.
Where NMN fits in
NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) is one of the primary precursors your body uses to produce NAD+. Taken as a supplement, NMN is absorbed and converted into NAD+ through your body's own metabolic pathways — which is why "NMN supplement" and "NAD+ booster" are usually referring to the same thing in practice, even though NAD+ is the molecule doing the actual work at the cellular level.
What purity and dose actually mean here
Because NMN is the active ingredient doing the work, both the amount per capsule and the purity of the NMN itself matter. Look for a stated milligram dose per capsule and third-party verification of purity — generic "proprietary blend" labeling makes it difficult to know how much NMN you're actually getting.
Frequently asked questions
Should I take NAD+ or NMN?
In supplement form, this is generally the same question — NAD+ doesn't absorb well orally, so what's sold as an "NAD+ booster" is almost always NMN (or a related precursor) rather than NAD+ itself.
Does NMN reverse aging?
No — current research supports NMN's role in supporting NAD+ levels and cellular energy production, but claims about reversing aging or extending lifespan go beyond what human research currently shows. Be cautious of any product making that claim.
What does "99.6% pure" actually mean?
It refers to the purity of the NMN itself, as verified by third-party testing — meaning less filler or non-NMN material relative to what's labeled. Many products advertise 99% purity; a verified 99.6% is a meaningful step above that baseline.
Is NMN safe to take with other supplements?
It's commonly combined with other supplements, including resveratrol. As with anything new, check with your doctor first if you're pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or managing a medical condition.
How long before I notice anything?
Cellular energy and aging-related support is a slow, cumulative process — think in terms of consistent daily use over weeks to months, not an immediate effect.
Evernate's NAD+ Booster is a single-ingredient, third-party verified 99.6%-pure 600mg NMN capsule, with no fillers, blends, or gelatin.
